The 18th March 2021, Lake Ollori, Hossa, Finland. The unachievable becomes achievable.
This is a story of overcoming. This is a story of never giving up. This is a story of breaking a record. This is the story of the Finnish freediver Johanna Nordblad.
On May 3rd 2022, Netflix debuted the highly anticipated documentary "Hold Your Breath: The Ice Dive" describing the journey of Johanna Nordblad who attempts to break the Guinness World Record for distance traveled under the ice with one breath.
One Lobster neck weight, one swimming costume, one mask, and a woman that wanted to push past her limits.
After 2 minutes 42 seconds with a water temperature of 2°C and air temperature of -7°C, the Finnish freediver swam a CMAS-certified 103 meters (338 feet) beneath 60 cm (1.97 foot) thick ice at Lake Ollori, becoming the first human being in the history of the world to do so.
Nordblad’s swim bested the previous record by 30 cm, set on March 6 2021, when Russian freediver Ekaterina Nekrasova swam 102.7 meters (336.9 feet) under the ice.
We encourage you to watch the whole journey that is now available on Netflix. This is an amazing film directed by Ian Derry. Congratulations to him and his team on doing an incredible job!
